Fall Days

This fall season is shaping up rather nicely, I must admit.  I have settled into my new position at work.  I am so peaceful at it, that I am finding the creativity to write music, crochet a poncho for Alex (pictured above), I will be finishing Sammie's Zebra blanket tonight and reading.

We went to a book sale at the Potsdam Library last weekend and I came home with several books to try.  I thought if I liked any of the authors enough, I would get the whole series on my kindle.  After reading from a book again, I realized how very much I prefer my kindle.  I NEVER thought I would say that, but my arm doesn't get tired when I am laying down, it continues to read to me when I'm in a great spot and have to start dinner, and I never have to wonder where I left off when my bookmark has fallen out...the kindle just starts in the right spot.  Now that I all my devices sync up...I'm in heaven.  :)

The temperature has turned cooler very quickly.  We should be in the 40-50's all this week.  I countered this by baking pumpkin bread and muffins this week.  We are all getting ready for Halloween around the corner and Thanksgiving soon to follow.

Fall Hobby and memories to be made...

It has been in the 60's this week and for me that means crocheting.  When it requires a large work laying across your lap, this hobby really does require cooler weather.  So every spring I put my yarn and crochet hooks away and every fall I take them back out.  Recently Sammie asked me for a zebra print blanket to match her room.  I told her I had never seen such a yarn... little did I know... she had.  :D So for the past two weekends I have been crocheting again.  Such fun.

The leaves are all orange and evenings cool.  With Halloween right around the corner we will be taking an annual family trip for the last time with Sammie living with us to Rome's theater to see the original Dracula and Frankenstein on the big screen.  :D That should be a blast.

Followed by Thanksgiving when we get to break in our new dining area and buffet kitchen counter.
Good times and memories to be made.

Alex

Alex is our baby.  I know, I know, she's 5'1 1/4", she is completely self-sufficient and ready to leave home tomorrow if given the opportunity.  :) But she will always be our baby.   She has grown up so quickly this year.  She is a gifted musician and artist.  She makes us laugh all the time.  She is so much fun.  Alex enters High School this year.  She currently plays the flute, keyboards, piccolo and trumpet.  She is still drawing and that gift just becomes more astounding each year.   She has a great love and passion for anything French.  Alex has started to take an interest in Photography, which is extremely cool.  I can't wait to see her transformation into young adulthood these next few years.  What an exciting adventure parenthood is.  We love you Alex. :) XXOO

Some things never change

My kitty and I, after many years together, still nap with each other. :D  I think if she could still sleep around my neck she would.  As a kitten she would drape herself around my neck, now at 11 pounds, she simply gets as close as she can.  LOL  Hope she lives an extraordinarily long time for a kitty...I love her so.  Callie is 10 years old this month.

Visit to Aqua Zoo in Alex Bay, NY

This has been the best summer.  We have been having lots of adventures.  We spent the day in Alex Bay just a few weeks ago.  This was our first stop, the Aqua Zoo.  The big alligator at the end was Adam's personal Fav.  Good memories.  We all left with an item from their gift shop as a token to remember our day out together.  Mine sits on a shelf in our living room.

Silver Grays

Silver grays, happy days
Sun has shown, kids all grown
Cooler breeze, heat to ease
Life goes on, deep in song

What to do, thoughts of you
We will grow, who could know
The world to see, just you and me
Middle age, to embrace

There are things I haven’t learned or seen.  There are dreams I’ve buried deep.
Getting older I embrace.  Freedom comes more every day.

Sammie has been gone all weekend, enjoying her very much grown up status at a college campus down state.  :)   As I think of the days that come, I am realizing a new stage of life awaits Adam and I.  Middle Age.  Life is a very wonderful experience.  All of it. :D

Fiesta Ware

We went to Potsdam, NY today to get Sam and Alex their new eye glasses and contact lenses for the year.  While there we hit our favorite shopping stores- Misty Hollow (crafts, yarn, collectibles and such) and North Country Neighbors (a basement full of used good stalls).  You just never know what you are going to find.  It is such fun.  Adam found a prop, Sam and Alex found crafts, and me...I found Fiesta Ware!!! :D
I just love this stuff.  Old school and made in the USA.
I fell in love with this red set (they had orange, greens and blues).  There were plates and such, but I only have room for so much in my pint size kitchen, so I chose what I would use.  Four mugs, sugar dish, creamer and butter dish.  My personal favorite...the butter dish. :D
Good Times.

Happy New Year!

Happy New Year everyone! :)   How did you spend your new years eve?  Adam got off later in the evening and was able to finally tell me about the movie he just went to see the night before, Django.   I love to hear him describe a story.  He is an awesome story teller.  After talking and laughing,  I went to bed when I was tired. :D  No countdown to midnight for me.  LOL  I'm simply tired too early these days.

I decided upon waking to start the New Year by having a great breakfast. :) It was divine.

I sipped the coffee after breakfast while reading aloud to Alex from the Help, by Kathryn Stockett.  She found the 530 page book when she was out shopping and suggested as our next read.  She and I will read a book at the same time so that we can discuss it as we go along.  Usually we read on our own time, but we were together.

Sammie brought home some new fabric and I am well aware that she will be creating something new for the next dance she has.  (I love being a part of this with her.  She is extremely creative.)

As I sit here typing I was thinking, I have no resolutions.  Because as I live, each day, I learn more and more what living is all about.  It is the simple moments.  The daily ones that we share with everyone we love.   The more we can appreciate these, the better life becomes.

To the coming year, may it be filled with many of life's greatest moments...the simple ones spent with those we love, to hold close and cherish.  (((HUGS)))
